Welsh businessman may move to England due to slow broadband

A lack of fibre broadband may persuade a Welsh businessman to relocate to England.

An entrepreneur from Wales has claimed he may move his firm to England because his homeland's broadband speed is holding back the business's success.

Alan Davies is the Managing Director of Merthyr Motor Auctions, which is an internet-based enterprise that sells vehicles on an international scale, reports WalesOnline.

The business has grown to employ 40 people and imports orders from all over the world, but the South Wales East exchange area where it is based is yet to be given access to fibre optic broadband.

Mr Davies has complained that his slow connection is causing him to lose ground to commercial competitors from Europe and the US, so much so that he is considering a move to an English location that has already been upgraded.

He said: "Our broadband is so slow, we are very limited in what we can do. It is going to cost us over the next year or so."

According to South Wales East Council, Mr Davies's exchange will be upgraded this June as part of the Superfast Cymru project.
