Welsh fibre broadband plans hailed by Stephen Crabb MP

The MP for Preseli Pembrokeshire said the £56.9 million government fibre broadband investment is "extremely important".

Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb has praised the government's decision to commit £56.9 million to the rollout of fibre optic broadband in Wales.

Provided the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) matches the Conservative-led coalition's funding, super-fast access will be extended to 90 per cent of homes and businesses across the country.

The remainder of properties will be able to receive minimum speeds of 2Mbps under the plans.

Responding to the news, Mr Crabb said strategic investments of this kind are "extremely important" for Pembrokeshire and Wales as a whole.

The MP stated he has remained in close contact with the WAG to highlight the frustrations felt by his constituents regarding their inability to access broadband of any sort.

"It is essential that the people in Pembrokeshire have a reliable broadband connection for businesses that operate online and for individuals wishing to access services and entertainment online," he declared.

Mr Crabb added the WAG should work with central government to ensure the rollout is made a "top priority".
