Welsh fibre broadband scheme welcomed by MP David Davies

David Davies has described the Next Generation Broadband project for Wales as a positive development.

MP for Monmouth David Davies has voiced his support for the Next Generation Broadband project for Wales.

Writing in the South Wales Argus, the Conservative politician hailed the £425 million deal between BT and the Welsh government as "good news, if the target can be kept".

Last month, the internet service provider signed an agreement to provide fibre broadband to 96 per cent of homes and businesses in Wales by 2015.

A recent report from Ofcom showed that Wales currently has the lowest level of super-fast broadband in the UK, with 34 per cent.

Although voicing his approval for the commitment from BT, Mr Davies also used the newspaper column to point out that some people living in remote areas are still without basic broadband services.

Under the Next Generation Broadband project, improvements will mainly take place in towns and cities with existing infrastructure.

"I welcome the announcement of even faster broadband for the majority, but will expect the Welsh government to prioritise those who have no access at all," the MP commented.
