Zen says fibre broadband uptake held back by lack of information

Many businesses are unaware of the fibre broadband services available to them, Zen Internet argues.

A lack of information about service availability is holding back uptake of fibre optic broadband in the UK, according to Zen Internet.

New research from the internet service provider revealed that only one-fifth of senior IT strategists at British organisations of all sizes are using fibre-to-the-cabinet technology.

Stephen Warburton, the company's Sales Director, said that while plenty of media coverage has been given to plans for future network upgrades, there is a general shortage of easy-to-understand information regarding the fibre broadband services available now.

"We are concerned that in combination, this is slowing the uptake of faster services that are available to about 50 per cent of premises in the UK today," he explained.

Earlier this month, the company announced that it will soon introduce a range of lower-priced fibre broadband packages in a bid to increase uptake.

Zen is also making an initial £3.5 million investment in its core infrastructure to build a network of local exchange Points of Presence in order to support these budget-friendly services.
