Hull set for new fibre optic broadband network

MS3 Communications has unveiled plans to roll out a fibre optic network in Hull.

KC's dominance of the Hull telecoms market is set to be challenged by the rollout of a new fibre optic broadband network in the east Yorkshire city.

MS3 Communications has agreed a deal to run fibre optic cables across the Humber Bridge, allowing its commercial service providers on the south of the estuary to reach customers in Hessle, west Hull and the city centre.

It is believed the infrastructure will cost around £12 million to install and the first businesses will be connected to the super-fast broadband network in the first quarter of 2012.

Phil Webster, portfolio manager for finance at Hull City Council, commented: "I am highly delighted that MS3 will be opening up the market place in the city."

Managing director of MS3 Tony Hales noted the company had been promising to roll out the infrastructure for "many months".

"We didn't want to be another company who promised change and then failed to deliver," he added.
