Welch Civils has begun installing fibre optic cables in Hull on behalf of MS3 Communications.

A major new fibre optic broadband network is being rolled out in Hull by MS3 Communications.

According to the telecoms firm, the project - which entered the installation phase on Monday (April 2nd 2012) - represents the first super-fast broadband infrastructure to be deployed in the city independently of incumbent provider KC.

Welch Civils has been awarded the £5.5 million contract to install the first 50km of fibre optic cables, with the work set to extend the network to the HU1, HU3, HU4 and HU13 postcode areas and take between 20 and 26 weeks to complete.

Managing director of MS3 Tony Hales commented: "The MS3 network will allow businesses to benefit from super-fast Ethernet connections [the likes] of which this city has never had before."

KC is also deploying fibre optic broadband across the city, with the company planning to deliver the service to 15,000 homes and businesses in Hull and the wider east Yorkshire area by the end of this year.
