Around 2,000 Hull businesses will be able to access the MS3 super-fast broadband network in the next five months.

MS3 Communications has revealed it plans to extend its new Hull fibre optic broadband network to 2,000 customers within five months.

The telecoms firm contracted Welch Civils to begin rolling out the first 50km of fibre optic cables last week, with the project expected to last for between 20 and 26 weeks.

Once this phase is completed, MS3's infrastructure will extend from Barton-upon-Humber to Hessle via the Humber Bridge, then on to Priory Park, Witty Street, Hessle Road and the city centre, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

About 2,000 prospective customers will be covered by this deployment and more than 200 businesses have already signed up.

Sam Hales, communications director at MS3, said: "We will only be supplying businesses at first, but we are in talks with a few internet providers outside the city to bring them into Hull to deliver to the residential market."

KC, another local telecoms firm, is also rolling out fibre broadband across Hull. The company plans to bring the service to 15,000 properties in and around the city by the end of this year.
