Dinas Powys is one of the first areas in the Vale of Glamorgan to connect to superfast fibre broadband.

Alun Cairns, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan, has visited Dinas Powys to see how the area's recent connection to superfast fibre optic broadband has benefited local residents and businesses.

The Dinas Powys cabinet is one of the first in the Vale to connect to the high-speed service thanks to the Superfast Cymru programme, but BT has already given 36,000 homes in the surrounding areas access to fibre broadband as part of its own commercial rollout.

Mr Cairns learnt about the technology during his visit and how locals were going to benefit from it on a day-to-day basis.

He told the Penarth Times: "Fibre broadband has an essential role to play in the stimulation of economic recovery and in building a more prosperous future for us all."

It is hoped that by spring 2015, around 14,000 homes in the Vale area will have access to fast fibre optic broadband.
