Nigel Adams MP checks out Sherburn fibre broadband work

Monday, April 29th 2013 by Paul France
BT has given Nigel Adams MP an inside look at its Sherburn fibre broadband rollout.

Selby & Ainsty MP Nigel Adams has been shown the equipment BT is installing to bring fibre optic broadband to the North Yorkshire village of Sherburn.

BT has been tasked with delivering the Superfast North Yorkshire project, which aims to bring fibre broadband within reach of 90 per cent of properties across the county by the end of 2014.

Mr Adams was given an insight into how the technology works by paying a visit to one of the first fibre optic street cabinets to go live in the area, reports the Selby Times.

Talking up the importance of super-fast broadband access, the MP urged residents of communities included in BT's rollout - including Sherburn, Monk Fryston and part of South Milford - to sign up for the service.

"Fibre broadband has an essential role to play in the stimulation of economic recovery and in building a more prosperous future for us all," he said, adding it is a "major step forward" that hundreds of local homes and businesses can now benefit from the technology.
