Be to trial new fibre broadband service in Barking

Be is to trial its new fibre broadband network in Barking, as it seeks to bring the delayed service to market as soon as possible.

Internet service provider Be has announced it will be conducting a new fibre broadband service trial in the Barking region of Greater London.

The company has sent a newsletter to clients who have previously registered an interest in fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) broadband, stating that the single-exchange trial will be commencing soon.

Be said the process of implementing its UK fibre network is taking longer than originally anticipated, which means it is now likely to miss its target of having the service up and running in 2011.

This follows on from a company statement released in September, which attributed the delay to difficulties in finding an appropriate partner.

Its new trial solution will involve installing its own equipment into BT's local exchanges, a setup which it believes will offer better long-term results than buying a fibre service from another provider.

"In order to continue our philosophy of providing broadband that remains unthrottled and unlimited, we need to find a solution that strikes the right balance between value ... and a swift time-to-market," said the company.
