Broadband boost for Forest of Dean

Delays to the rollout of broadband in the Forest of Dean have now been overcome.

Residents of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire are celebrating the launch of new superfast broadband networks in their area.

Engineers have now completed the installation of new fibre roadside cabinets in Cinderford and have begun work to roll out next generation broadband access in several surrounding areas, the Gloucester Citizen reports.

Originally announced in 2013 and planned for completion by the end of last year, delays have impacted the project to date but local residents are now happy that the necessary work to deliver superfast services is being carried out in earnest.

Lynda Thomas, Clerk to Cinderford Town Council, told the local publication: "The council has been talking about faster broadband for years now, so it's great to see the engineers have finally arrived to install it. This is going to be a great thing for the area."

Local areas now in line to be joined up to next generation access over the coming months will include Coleford, Drybrook, Longhope, Lydbrook, Monmouth, St Briavels and Whitecroft.
