More London communities are set to enjoy the benefits of fibre broadband, Chet Patel of BT has said.

Chet Patel, the new director for London at fibre optic broadband provider BT, has pledged to extend "wonderful technological opportunities" to communities across the capital.

Speaking yesterday (February 1st 2012) after being unveiled as the telecoms giant's latest regional director for the city, Mr Patel noted BT is continuing to invest in its London broadband infrastructure ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.

As part of this programme, the company has previously announced it will roll out fibre broadband to another 350,000 homes and businesses by the end of the year, taking the total number of properties in the capital able to access the service to around 2.2 million.

"I am determined as London director to help everybody in all the capital's diverse boroughs unlock these wonderful technological opportunities for all their needs," Mr Patel commented.

At the end of last month, BT revealed a further 165,000 properties in London communities such as Walthamstow, Southall, Twickenham and Upton Park will be connected to its fibre broadband service in the coming weeks.
