BT nearing end of Capel fibre broadband rollout

Monday, April 15th 2013 by Paul France
Super-fast broadband will soon be available in Capel, Surrey.

BT says that the wait for fibre optic broadband in the Surrey village of Capel is almost at an end, with residents set to benefit from faster and more reliable connectivity in the coming weeks.

The telecoms giant named Capel as one of the winners of its Race to Infinity competition at the start of 2011 and planned to roll out super-fast broadband in the area, but the process was held up due to problems with obtaining planning permission, reports the Dorking Advertiser.

In addition, the project was pushed back when it emerged that residents in nearby Coldharbour - which is served by the Capel exchange - would be left with poor-quality internet access. BT has addressed this by installing a new street cabinet in the village.

Ian Read, a spokesman for BT, said the company also encountered problems with getting power to the cabinets.

"We are in the process of working to complete the access of fibre broadband for the remaining cabinets in Capel and hope to have completed them and begin accepting orders before the end of May 2013," he added.
