BT rolls out fibre broadband in central Bournemouth

Wednesday, January 2nd 2013 by Paul France
Around 12,000 properties in Bournemouth town centre are set to receive super-fast broadband access.

Fibre optic broadband has been rolled out to the first homes and businesses in central Bournemouth as part of BT's national deployment.

The telecoms giant will bring super-fast connectivity to around 12,000 properties in the south coast town, having previously carried out upgrades in the districts of Southbourne, Westbourne, Winton and Boscombe, reports the Bournemouth Echo.

Once the latest work has been completed, approximately 74,000 premises in Bournemouth will be able to access fibre broadband, with this figure set to climb to 83,000 when the technology is rolled out in Northbourne.

Leader of Bournemouth Borough Council John Beesley said super-fast broadband is "an essential building block to economic recovery and growth".

"It gives our local firms a boost and brings us a competitive edge in attracting new businesses, jobs and investment," he explained.

Central Bournemouth is the latest part of the south-west to gain access to the service, with BT also recently conducting upgrades in Dorchester, Poole and Yeovil.
