BT to roll out fibre broadband in Wallasey

Wallasey residents are set to benefit from BT's super-fast broadband rollout.

BT is set to bring faster internet speeds to the Wirral Peninsula as part of its national fibre optic broadband rollout.

Almost 28,000 Wallasey homes and businesses will be able to receive the super-fast broadband service once the work has been completed, reports Wirral News.

The telecoms giant has previously deployed fibre optic broadband to the Wirral communities of Bromborough and Heswall, while Caldy, Claughton, Eastham, Irby and Mountwood have been earmarked for future upgrades.

Wallasey MP Angela Eagle said the development is "very welcome" and described next-generation broadband as an "essential building block" in the process of boosting the economy.

Commenting on the benefits for local firms, she insisted that fibre broadband "brings us a competitive edge in attracting new businesses, jobs and investment".

"Residents will also benefit from being able to do more, better and faster, online," Ms Eagle added.

Some 131,000 homes and businesses signed up for BT's fibre broadband service in the first three months of 2012.
