BT slammed for delaying Bracknell fibre broadband rollout

The Insight Group has hit out at BT for delaying the deployment of super-fast broadband in Bracknell.

BT's decision to delay the rollout of fibre optic broadband in Bracknell has come in for criticism from local marketing consultancy the Insight Group.

Mark Robson of the organisation said the telecoms giant had originally promised it would install the technology in the town in December 2010, before moving this deadline back by a year.

The company has since "rescheduled" the fibre broadband deployment to March 2012 and then to this December, he told Get Bracknell.

Mr Robson insisted this delay is "unacceptable" in the light of comments from Bracknell MP Dr Phillip Lee, who recently said next-generation broadband connectivity will "transform the fortunes" of thousands of local small and medium-sized enterprises.

"Unfortunately, yet again broadband upgrade and implementation is just empty promises and hot air," the Insight Group man added.

Back in March 2010, BT unveiled details of a major rollout in Berkshire that would bring fibre broadband to about 150,000 properties in 11 communities, including Bracknell, Reading Central and Windsor.
