BT unsure of Keighley fibre broadband plans

It is currently not known which parts of Keighley will receive fibre optic broadband from BT.

BT has told residents and businesses in Keighley it is currently not sure which parts of the West Yorkshire town will be included in its fibre optic broadband rollout programme.

The telecoms giant announced earlier this month that almost 15,000 homes and businesses in the area are set to be upgraded to receive super-fast broadband access over the coming months.

Keighley is one of 19 communities across Yorkshire and the Humber to be included in the project, along with the likes of Brigg, Crossgates, Driffield and Hemsworth. By the end of 2014, BT's fibre optic broadband network will cover two-thirds of UK premises.

Speaking to the Keighley News, a spokesman from the company said it is currently unable to confirm which areas of the town are in line to benefit from the project.

"The exchange itself will be upgraded and then [we] will identify individual cabinets to upgrade. This will decide which areas get the fibre," he added.
