CityFibre makes Bournemouth fibre broadband pledge

The company has said it will deliver "true fibre to the home" to the south coast town.

CityFibre has pledged to bring "true fibre to the home" to tens of thousands of properties in Bournemouth over the coming months and years.

The fibre optic broadband provider told the Daily Echo its network already covers 20,000 properties and will be in service by the end of the year.

Greg Mesch, chief executive of CityFibre Holdings, revealed the company is planning to extend its infrastructure to 60,000 homes by midway through 2013.

He went on to state the firm's broadband network will be superior to the service offered by rival provider BT, as there will be no drop-off in speed caused by the transition from fibre to copper cables.

"Copper running into the home ... while cheaper to roll out, hampers the brute strength, ultra-fast speeds and future-proofed qualities of a true fibre-to-the-home network," Mr Mesch remarked.

According to the company, its infrastructure offers "unprecedented" speeds of up to 1Gbps.

As well as BT and CityFibre, Virgin Media is planning to roll out fibre broadband in Bournemouth in the near future.
