Connecting Cambridgeshire seeks further fibre broadband support

Wednesday, April 3rd 2013 by Miles Northrop
Cambridgeshire residents are being urged to show their demand for faster broadband.

Connecting Cambridgeshire chiefs are still eager for rural residents to come forward and show their support for fibre optic broadband access.

The county council has signed a deal with BT that will bring fibre-based connectivity to 98 per cent of local homes and businesses by the end of 2015.

Over 24,000 prospective super-fast broadband customers have already backed the project, but Connecting Cambridgeshire is keen for more people to demand access to the technology.

Programme director Noelle Godfrey told the Wisbech Standard: "We particularly want to hear from people interested in becoming broadband champions for their area, as well as householders and businesses that will benefit from better broadband."

Connecting Cambridgeshire is working closely with Openreach - BT's local access network business - on the project, which will involve more than 100 telephone exchanges across the county being upgraded. In addition, several new street cabinets will be installed in the area.
