BT increases Cambridgeshire fibre broadband coverage

Wednesday, April 17th 2013 by Paul France
Another three Cambridgeshire communities have been included in BT's fibre broadband rollout.

BT has further increased the scope of its fibre optic broadband network in Cambridgeshire to include the communities of March, Whittlesey and Wisbech.

As part of its £2.5 billion commercial rollout, the telecoms giant will connect more than 26,000 local homes and businesses to the super-fast service over the coming weeks.

The network operator has already carried out extensive work towards boosting broadband speeds in Cambridgeshire, with many other locations - including St Ives, Cambridge, Peterborough, Huntingdon and St Neots - previously benefiting from the scheme.

Across the UK, BT's fibre optic network currently passes more than 15 million properties and is due to reach a further four million during spring next year.

News of the latest development has been welcomed by Connecting Cambridgeshire, a public-private partnership involving BT that aims to bring next-generation broadband to 98 per cent of commercial and residential premises by the end of 2015.

Noelle Godfrey, programme director of Connecting Cambridgeshire, said: "We know how important it is for our communities and businesses to be able to access good broadband services."
