Fibre broadband has led to the creation of jobs with many Cornish firms.

The Superfast Cornwall fibre optic broadband rollout programme has played an important part in fuelling innovation and creating new jobs throughout the county.

This is according to Programme Director of the project Nigel Ashcroft MBE, who has published a statement detailing the successes it has achieved so far.

He states approximately 6,000 firms in Cornwall are now connected to the high-speed technology, with over 200 additional businesses signing up to receive faster internet each month.

In addition, it is thought 611 jobs have been created thanks to the arrival of the innovative infrastructure, while an estimated 807 have been safeguarded.

Mr Ashcroft highlights Redruth-based Clear-Flow as one company that has benefited from gaining access to fibre broadband, as it has enabled it to take part in more advanced online interactions with clients, leading it to win a significant contract with South West Water.

Another of the many Cornish organisations reaping the benefits of the superfast service is Natural Generation, which is based in Perranporth. Thanks to gaining a connection to fibre technology, the firm has been able to increase its workforce, therefore providing a boost to the local economy.
