The first Exeter residents can now receive fibre broadband from Eclipse Internet.

Eclipse Internet has announced homes and businesses across Exeter will be able to access its fibre optic broadband service thanks to work at a local exchange.

The Exeter Castle exchange has been opened up to more than 900 postcode areas, meaning speeds of up to 40Mbps from Eclipse are now available in parts of Middlemoor, Pinhoe, Wipton and other locations.

Available to residential customers and small businesses, the super-fast broadband service enables subscribers to take advantage of solutions such as video conferencing and internet telephony.

One of the first people in Exeter to sign up for the fibre broadband product is Sue Tyrrell, who said: "With three children in the house, the internet is in pretty much constant use, so these speeds are vital to the way we and other families in the city live now."

Eclipse launched its Lightspeed fibre broadband package last month, bringing improved upload and download speeds to consumers in enabled areas.
