Fibre broadband makes its way to Auchterarder ahead of Ryder Cup

Superfast fibre broadband has arrived in the Scottish town of Auchterarder.

Residents and businesses in the Scottish town of Auchterarder - which is set to play host to the 2014 Ryder Cup in September - are now able to connect to superfast fibre optic broadband thanks to Digital Scotland.

The area is the latest to receive access to the high-speed technology under the £410 million regional rollout programme, with Perth and Kinross Council investing £1.2 million in the cause.

With a major tourism event set to take place in the town next month, fibre broadband will be of great benefit to those visiting the location for the golf tournament.

BT Openreach engineers are currently working to lay fibre cables and upgrade green roadside cabinets in Auchterarder, meaning many local premises will be able to access the superfast service ahead of the Cup's tee-off.

Chairperson of the Auchterarder Community Partnership Carol Wood commented: "The arrival of fibre broadband to Auchterarder is great news, whether your business is tourism or not."

Altogether, more than 56,500 homes and commercial buildings throughout Scotland will gain access to the high-speed technology this autumn, with improved internet speeds of up to 80Mbps available.
