Three more Gloucestershire villages will be connected to fibre optic broadband.

Three more areas of Gloucestershire are celebrating after finding out they will be connected to fibre optic broadband.

The villages of Charfield, Rangeworthy and Wickwar will be introduced to the superfast speeds as part of a collaborative project that has seen South Gloucestershire Council, Wiltshire Council and BT join forces to upgrade homes and businesses across the south-west of England.

According to the South Cotswolds Gazette, funding for the rollout has partly come from the coalition government's Broadband Delivery UK scheme. It is aiming to bring next-generation broadband to premises in rural areas that have not been included in BT's commercial installations.

John Goddard, who is the Chairman of South Gloucestershire Council's Resources Sub-committee, explained that the new service would bring numerous benefits to people in the area.

He said: "We recognise that high-speed internet connections are vital for South Gloucestershire residents as well as our businesses and this is another milestone reached in this large and complex infrastructure project."
