Superfast fibre broadband arrives in Pucklechurch

Pucklechurch is to be among the first South Gloucestershire areas to gain access to superfast fibre optic broadband.

The South Gloucestershire communities of Pucklechurch, Wick, Badminton and Tormarton are to become some of the first in the area to gain access to superfast fibre optic broadband.

High-speed broadband is coming to the villages thanks to the £35.6 million Great Western Broadband (GWB) rollout programme, which is supported by South Gloucestershire Council, Wiltshire Council and BT, the Gazette reports.

Several green roadside cabinets in the area have now been upgraded to receive the superfast service, meaning approximately 2,200 residential and commercial properties are able to access faster internet speeds.

John Goddard, Chairman of the local council's resources sub-committee, said: "Broadband remains a key priority for South Gloucestershire Council. Having already invested over £2 million into this complex infrastructure project, we have just agreed a further £350,000 of funding to help extend the coverage."

If the GWB rollout programme remains on track, more than 5,000 residences and businesses based in the South Gloucestershire area should be able to connect to the service by the summer, with those in Severn Beach next in line to gain access.
