Fibre optic network spreads across Suffolk

Suffolk County Council has announced more than 2,000 homes have been connected to a fibre optic network.

Suffolk County Council has revealed 2,100 homes have been added to a fibre optic network run by BT.

Mark Bee, the authority's leader and Chair of the Better Broadband for Suffolk programme, said that this is a "tangible demonstration" of the council's commitment to getting residents the online infrastructure they need.

The two areas affected by the move to high speed internet are Reydon and Southwold, which are both within Suffolk County Council's remit.

Among those to welcome the news was Therese Coffey, MP for Suffolk Coastal, who stated: "The government has invested nearly £12m alongside our local councils in delivering better broadband for Suffolk and I look forward to seeing it continue to roll out."

On the back of this announcement, Suffolk County Council has estimated that over the next 15 years some 1,500 jobs will be created thanks to increased internet infrastructure spending - with a £2 billion economic boost also expected.
