Further fibre broadband boost for north-east

More properties in Northumberland are set to gain fibre optic broadband.

More homes and businesses in the north-east of England have discovered they will receive a boost in connectivity, thanks to fibre optic broadband.

The iNorthumberland project will bring superfast speeds to thousands of premises in areas including Alnmouth, Lesbury and Widdington.

What's more, organisers have now revealed the upgrades are likely to take place as much as three months before schedule.

The Duchess of Northumberland Jane Percy explained that the introduction of the new service could bring widespread benefits to homeowners and entrepreneurs alike.

She said: "I'm sure that superfast broadband will open the doors to countless business and leisure opportunities, boosting the more rural areas and supporting our thriving local communities."

The Duchess went on to say that she hoped the next-generation network would be "embraced" by all in the county.

iNorthumberland is a partnership between the Northumberland Development Company and BT and has been facilitated by the government's Broadband Delivery UK programme.
