KC enjoys higher-than-expected fibre broadband growth

Some 3,600 customers now receive super-fast broadband from KC.

East Yorkshire internet service provider KC has seen stronger-than-anticipated demand for fibre optic broadband connectivity.

The company's Lightstream super-fast broadband service is currently being used by around 3,600 customers, representing more than 20 per cent of all properties passed by the network.

Over the next financial year, the fibre deployment is expected to cover a further 15,000 homes and businesses, with KC remaining on track to reach a total of 45,000 households across the region by March 2015.

KC bills Lightstream as the fastest broadband package in the UK. Delivered via fibre-to-the-premises technology, it offers guaranteed speeds - including one at 350Mbps.

Reflecting the ongoing consumer demand for bundled services, the KC segment saw its revenues for the year to March 31st 2013 rise by 0.9 per cent to £104.6 million.

"The group has made further progress in improving the quality and long-term sustainability of the business," commented KCOM's Executive Chairman Bill Halbert.
