Lancashire broadband plans 'on the horizon'

New superfast broadband is being installed in a series of Lancashire villages.

A group of rural communities in northern Lancashire are preparing for the rollout of new superfast broadband services in their area.

Fibre optic cabling is in the process of being installed in the vicinity of Yealand, Silverdale and Storth, the Westmorland Gazette reports.

The move has been made possible through the efforts of community-led campaign group B4YS, which has helped to fund ongoing infrastructure works in the area, such as the laying of fibre optics beneath several major carriageways to connect each of the villages.

It forms part of the wider B4RN - Broadband for the Rural North - scheme and is expected to help households achieve broadband speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps once work in the area is completed.

The project is being made possible through public donations, as well as the efforts of volunteers to help in the burying of fibre optic cables in their area.
