More than 3,500 homes across Woburn Sands will have access to super-fast fibre broadband in the next few weeks.

Thousands of homes across Woburn Sands are set to benefit from super-fast fibre broadband.

BT has confirmed that over 3,500 households and businesses will be able to enjoy high-speed internet access in the coming weeks.

A number of areas across Milton Keynes have recently benefited from a £2.5 billion rollout from BT to provide the new technology.

Towns such as Bradwell Abbey, Wolverton, Shenley Church End and Newport Pagnell already have access to the super-fast fibre broadband and it is expected that more than 2.7 million homes and business across south-east England could benefit by the end of 2013.

David Hopkins, mayor of Woburn Sands and chairman of the town council, said: "This is a significant step for Woburn Sands.

"At a time when our local economy needs a much-needed boost, important developments such as BT's investment in super-fast broadband offer us the potential to create new opportunities, services and growth."

John Weaver, BT's south-east regional director, added that research suggests fibre broadband could help to boost the economic prospects of an average town by £143 million and lead to the creation of 225 new jobs.
