The technology is being rolled out in seven Buckinghamshire communities.

More than 100,000 homes and businesses in Buckinghamshire will be able to sign up for BT Infinity fibre optic broadband in the next few weeks.

The technology is currently being rolled out in seven local communities - High Wycombe, Milton Keynes, Shenley Church End, Burnham, Bourne End, Penn and Wolverton.

According to the telecoms giant, businesses that take out a fibre broadband connection can enjoy a number of new web-based applications and services, including cloud computing and videoconferencing.

Customers who choose the service will be able to receive download speeds of up to 40Mbps, with this figure potentially rising to 60Mbps in the future.

John Dovey, BT's regional director for the south-east, said: "Many more customers in other parts of the country can look forward to faster speeds in the pipeline."

BT is also currently working on fibre broadband rollouts in Hampshire and Surrey, with more than 40,000 properties in each county set to benefit from the project.
