Plusnet has expanded its range of fibre broadband packages with a new 76Mbps option.

Fibre broadband service provider Plusnet has announced the introduction of a new superfast internet package that offers download speeds of up to 76Mbps.

The new Plusnet Extra Fibre deal replaces the company's previous 38Mbps Extra Fibre product, with the new speed said to be around eight times faster than the average UK broadband speed.

In addition to this headline speed increase, the new Plusnet Extra Fibre package offers upload speeds of up to 19.5Mbps - thereby addressing user feedback calling for faster uploads - as well as a 250GB peak-time usage allowance.

The new product is being launched following the conclusion of the provider's 80/20 service trials, which offered download speeds of 80Mbps and 20Mbps uploads and has met with a positive response since its January 2012 launch.

Plusnet confirmed that it will also be bolstering connection speeds for all of its existing fibre broadband customers free of charge.

Last month, it was announced that Plusnet has been named a recommended broadband provider by consumer group Which?, winning praise for its connection reliability and customer service.
