The initiative aims to roll out fibre and wireless services across the county.

NextGenUs has revealed it is making good progress towards rolling out wireless and fibre optic broadband across Cumbria.

The community network specialist gave an update on its efforts so far, which have seen "a lot of work put into deploying networks in the Eden Valley and surrounding areas".

To date, the organisation has transformed a flag pole at a Milburn primary school into a receiver station and local distribution node, which is expected to boost speeds in the area from 0.3Mbps to 30Mbps.

Nodes have also been deployed at the Golden Pheasant pub in Cliburn, as well as Blencarn, Great Sakeld and Murton.

NextGenUs is aiming to complete work at Kings Meaburn within the next week, while several other communities - including Newby, Morland and Reagill - should undergo installations during August.

The project is proceeding without any public funding from Broadband Delivery UK, although NextGenUs has previously said it hopes to attract investment from Cumbria County Council.
