NextGenUs to expand rural Lancashire fibre broadband coverage

Monday, December 5th 2011 by Editorial
Rural Lancashire communities are set to be included in fibre broadband deployments from NextGenUs.

NextGenUs has announced plans to expand its fibre optic broadband service into rural notspots across Lancashire.

Guy Jarvis, managing director of the network operator, revealed it has already begun construction on the additional infrastructure and believes the technology - which offers symmetrical upload and download speeds - will be available in the first quarter of 2012.

He declared it is a "particular pleasure" to bring fibre broadband to rural Lancashire communities, given that Fibrestream and NextGenUs have been working in the area since 2009 and 2010 respectively in a bid to improve quality and availability.

The deployment will "initially target the Lune Valley area in the north of the county where community demand for service is already sufficient", Mr Jarvis added.

Last month, NextGenUs revealed it is offering schools the opportunity to gain free broadband access by helping to deliver services to other properties in their local communities.

A trial of the scheme is currently open in Cumbria, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
