Sky says fibre broadband enhances product range

Fibre broadband has boosted the Sky product range, according to chief executive Jeremy Darroch.

Sky has claimed the introduction of its fibre optic broadband service has further improved its "market-leading" product range.

The satellite broadcaster rolled out its first super-fast broadband packages last month and is currently offering customers a choice of two speeds - up to 38Mbps and 76Mbps.

Around 30 per cent of UK homes were able to access the fibre optic broadband service when it first become available, although this footprint is set to expand over the coming months in line with BT's upgrade programme.

Commenting on the move, Sky chief executive Jeremy Darroch said the company has "made our market-leading broadband service even better with the launch of our fibre products".

The pay TV giant is also working on extending its broadband network and is aiming to reach 88 per cent of households across the country by June 2013.

If it succeeds in hitting this target, more than one million additional properties will be covered by Sky's broadband infrastructure.
