BT has completed upgrades on Stowmarket's local broadband network, delivering the benefits of super-fast fibre connections to the area.

BT has introduced super-fast fibre broadband services to more than 8,500 homes and business premises across Stowmarket.

The internet service provider has completed network upgrades that allow residents of the area to take advantage of high-speed downloads and uploads, while moving BT closer to its goal of providing fibre broadband access to 185,000 premises in Suffolk by spring 2013, reports the Bury Free Press.

According to BT, the service will bring various lifestyle benefits to everyday users, while businesses can use their super-fast connections to achieve competitive advantages in the current economic climate.

Timothy Passmore, leader of Mid Suffolk District Council, welcomed BT's investment, saying: "It has the power to transform every aspect of life and the deployment is another step towards having super-fast services available for the whole of Suffolk."

According to Suffolk County Council's local broadband plan, improving connectivity across the region will help to drive economic growth of between 15 and 20 per cent, create a better business environment and improve skill levels among the local workforce.
