Suffolk town to be boosted by fibre broadband next month

Fibre optic broadband is scheduled to be available to residents in Eye, Suffolk, by the end of August.

Residents in Eye can expect to have access to fibre optic broadband by the end of August, according to Suffolk County Council.

The Better Broadband for Suffolk scheme was launched 11 months ago, with the local authority, BT and central governments working together to ensure the rollout is a success across the region.

It is hoped all properties in the area will be able to take advantage of connection speeds of at least 2 Mbps by 2015. However, as many as 90 per cent should receive a 24 Mbps service.

Speaking to Diss Express, Business Forum Member Brett Fraser admitted the town's internet provisions had been poor for several years and it was "madness" that this had been the case.

He even suggested that it was nearly impossible for firms to use the internet after school hours, as too many children were going home and logging on, slowing down the experience for everyone.
