Virgin Media praises Fujitsu wholesale fibre broadband network

Fujitsu's infrastructure offers numerous benefits over BT's, according to a Virgin Media spokesperson.

Virgin Media has touted the benefits of Fujitsu's proposed fibre optic broadband network over the super-fast infrastructure offered by BT.

According to the cable company, internet service providers (ISPs) looking to rent space on a wholesale network should choose Fujitsu's offering thanks to its unmanaged nature.

This allows ISPs to tailor their fibre broadband packages in a way that cannot be achieved on BT's network, a spokesperson for Virgin Media told PC Pro.

Fujitsu offers a "better, more flexible service" than BT, the source declared.

Defending itself against the claim, BT stated that its own model was designed to achieve the "fastest deployment of super-fast broadband possible to the widest market possible".

It was also intended to be cost effective and "deliverable in a consistent way", the telecoms giant added.

Fujitsu launched the first active trial of its fibre broadband network last week and could eventually extend the infrastructure to serve five million homes across rural Britain.
