The town will be the first place in Warwickshire to get access to the service.

Virgin Media has chosen Warwick to be the first place in Warwickshire to receive access to its ultra-fast up to 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service.

Residents in the county town who sign up for the product will be able to enjoy download speeds that are more than 16 times faster than the national average.

Executive director of broadband at Virgin Media Jon James was quoted by the Warwick Courier as saying: "We know residents in Warwickshire will be blown away by what 100Mbps can deliver and the very real impact this can have on day-to-day life."

Highlighting some of the advantages offered by the fibre broadband service, Mr James claimed it will allow subscribers to download an entire music album or upload family videos to share with friends in a matter of seconds.

Last month, the cable company announced an expansion of its network that will bring up to 100Mbps connectivity to at least 100,000 additional homes in Southampton.
