Virgin Media to upgrade Brighton fibre broadband network

Thursday, January 26th 2012 by Editorial
Customer complaints have persuaded Virgin Media to upgrade its network in Brighton and Hove.

Virgin Media has announced plans to improve its fibre optic broadband service in Brighton and Hove after receiving a raft of complaints from local customers.

Many broadband subscribers in the area have seen lower-than-expected connection speeds, particularly at peak times, with Virgin Media attributing the problem to a small number of "incredibly heavy users".

Speaking to the Argus, Virgin Media broadband user Maxwell Thomas said his service is particularly poor during busy periods in the evenings and at weekends and insisted the network is in need of improvement.

"A look on the forums sees many people suffering from this poor service," he added.

Virgin is set to conduct the upgrades over the next four months and explained the work will ensure all Brighton and Hove customers get a fair level of capacity.

Earlier this month, Virgin Media was named the fourth worst company in the UK for customer service in a survey of Daily Mail readers, attracting ten per cent of votes.
