Bill Murphy of BT says fibre optic broadband will lead to new jobs being created across the East Sussex area.

Newly announced investment in fibre optic broadband will help to create and safeguard jobs across East Sussex, according to BT's Managing Director of Next Generation Access Bill Murphy.

Speaking as the telecoms giant named Hadlow Down as the first East Sussex village to benefit from the county-wide eSussex rollout, Mr Murphy insisted the move would represent a major boost to the local economy.

"It will be of enormous benefit to local businesses, which can use the faster speeds to improve their competitiveness both within the UK and abroad," he explained.

Good progress is being made on the eSussex programme, which is being led by BT and East Sussex County Council, in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council.

Partially funded by the government, the project will see more than 66,000 homes and businesses across the county connected to superfast broadband over the next two years.

Throughout spring, several more communities – including Burwash, Etchingham and Horam – can look forward to gaining access to the technology.
