BT Infinity fibre broadband welcomed by Bromsgrove MP

The technology will be rolled out to almost 20,000 properties in the town.

The arrival of BT Infinity fibre optic broadband in Bromsgrove has been welcomed by local MP Sajid Javid.

More than 19,800 properties in the Worcestershire town are in line to receive the technology when the telecoms giant completes its work in the coming weeks.

Mr Javid described the launch of super-fast broadband in his constituency as a "very important development" for the communities in the area and said it represents a "significant investment".

"We welcome the opportunity for local householders and businesses to be at the forefront of benefiting from this exciting technology," he added.

BT has claimed the speeds offered by its fibre broadband service will help subscribers to run bandwidth-heavy applications such as YouTube and the BBC iPlayer simultaneously.

The news comes shortly after the telecoms giant revealed four more villages - Capel in Surrey, Lindfield in West Sussex, Marton in Warwickshire and Burley in Wharfedale - had been added to its list of six Race to Infinity winners.

Each of the ten communities will get access to BT Infinity by early 2012.
