Dark fibre broadband network supports 200 Dundee properties

CityFibre has deployed a dark fibre solution in the Scottish city.

More than 200 properties across Dundee are being supported by a new dark fibre optic broadband network deployed by CityFibre Holdings.

The internet service provider has linked a second data centre to the new offices of Dundee City Council (DCC), allowing the local authority to make substantial cost savings.

Due to CityFibre's rollout, DCC has been able to move to smaller headquarters and reduce the number of desks onsite by taking advantage of solutions such as flexible working and hot desking, in which a single desk is shared by multiple members of staff working on different shifts.

Head of IT at DCC Ged Bell described the initiative as a "flagship project" for the council.

"[CityFibre's] costing strategy and willingness to work with us were ... big contributory factors in our decision to select them as a partner," he explained.

In March, CityFibre acquired the assets of Fibrecity Holdings, H2O Networks and Opencity Media, all of which were previously part of the i3 Group's UK operation.
