Hyperoptic is to bring a full-fibre connection to parts of Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool.

Communications Minister Ed Vaizey has hailed the introduction of a new fibre broadband rollout in the north of England, which will see parts of Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool connected to some of the UK's fastest internet speeds.

Network provider Hyperoptic is set to install a gigabit full-fibre infrastructure to property developments in these cities, which could enable people to experience loading speeds of up to 1,000Mbps - 5,500 per cent faster than the UK average, which is just 17.8Mbps.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Mr Vaizey said: "Cutting-edge technology is the foundation for growth and innovation and today's announcement is fantastic news for Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds."

Most fibre broadband connections go to a roadside cabinet, meaning residents can experience varying speeds. However, Hyperoptic installs directly to a building, which can enable people to enjoy a significantly better connection.

The provider will require residents due to move into new developments to express interest in the full-fibre network, before installing its cables to such sites.

Prior to the north gaining access to the superfast service through Hyperoptic, properties in London, Reading, Cardiff and Bristol have also been connected to the high-speed technology thanks to the company.
