Fibre broadband rolling out to 3,000 Somersham properties

Friday, August 30th 2013 by Paul France
BT has included Somersham in its commercial superfast broadband rollout.

The Cambridgeshire village of Somersham has become one of the latest communities to benefit from BT's £2.5 billion commercial fibre optic broadband rollout.

Engineers have already brought the service to hundreds of homes and businesses in the village, with this number set to exceed 3,000 once the local deployment is completed, reports the St Neots, Huntingdon and St Ives News & Crier.

As well as through its commercial programme, BT is improving connectivity in Cambridgeshire via its partnership with the county council and Peterborough City Council, which aims to deliver superfast broadband to 98 per cent of local properties by the end of 2015.

County Councillor Steve Criswell hailed the arrival of fibre broadband in Somersham and noted that BT, along with the local councils, is working to bring the service to "more challenging areas".

He added: "We know how important it is for our communities and businesses to be able to access good broadband services to create new opportunities, services and growth."
