KC running fibre broadband pilot scheme in Weel

Weel is the latest village to be included in KC's fibre broadband trial.

KC has announced the village of Weel is the latest east Yorkshire community to be included in its trial of fibre optic broadband.

The local telecoms firm chose Weel, located on the outskirts of Beverley, because residents have previously been stuck with slow broadband speeds and due to the technical challenges presented by rolling out the technology in the area.

Customers taking part in the pilot scheme will be offered speeds of up to 100Mbps and unlimited downloads in return for giving feedback on the quality of the connection.

Andy Whale, director of network and engineering services at KC, said the response from people who gain access to faster internet connectivity is the most rewarding part of his job.

"At first people are simply amazed at just how fast it is, which is quickly followed by excitement about what they'll be able to do," he explained.

KC is also trialling fibre optic broadband at homes in the village of Woodmansey and five high-rise tower blocks on Great Thornton Street estate in Hull.
