Residents in the Rutland village can sign up for maximum speeds of 24Mbps.

Rutland Telecom has announced it is offering 50 free fibre optic broadband lines to residents in the village of Luffenham.

The Gigaclear-owned telecoms operator has teamed up with Luffenham Village Trust to give away no-cost internet connections to the local primary school and householders living in the community.

As well as the free lines, Rutland Telecom has revealed anyone living in a property served by the Ketton exchange can now take advantage of its fibre broadband product, which offers download speeds of up to 24Mbps.

Ben, a resident of Edith Weston who switched to Rutland Telecom, said: "We are about as far away from the exchange as possible but even so it's made a big difference - we had half the speed before."

The new service means video streaming is possible and webpages load faster, he added.

Rutland Telecom owner Gigaclear has been approached by more than 200 rural communities about the possibility of deploying fibre broadband networks.
