Hambleton residents will be connected to the infrastructure in early October.

Gigaclear is on track to connect the first Rutland homes to its new fibre optic broadband service next month, the telecoms firm has announced.

Having started the super-fast broadband deployment earlier this month, the company revealed properties in the village of Hambleton will begin being hooked up to its network in early October, with the work set to be complete by mid-month.

The fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology will initially allow householders to take advantage of up to 50Mbps broadband speeds, although this figure is set to increase in the future.

Matthew Hare, chief executive of Gigaclear, said the company is focused on rolling out the technology nationally in areas with high demand for fast, secure connections.

"Gigaclear in Hambleton clearly shows that it is possible to deliver FTTH in rural areas and it can be delivered now," he added.

The partnership between the firm and local internet service provider Rutland Telecom was announced in June, shortly after Gigaclear won Ofcom's approval to carry out fibre broadband installation work across the UK.
