TalkTalk accepts fibre broadband demand has been modest

The company has signed up 2,000 customers to the service.

TalkTalk has admitted the uptake of its recently launched fibre optic broadband service has been "modest".

In its financial results publication for the three months to June 30th 2011, the internet service provider (ISP) revealed it had signed up around 1,000 customers to the super-fast broadband product by the end of the quarter.

On average, approximately 200 subscribers have signed up to TalkTalk's Fibre Optic Boost package since it hit the market.

Despite the current low levels of take-up, the company insisted it is committed to developing the service further by working with Openreach, BT's local access network businesses.

Explaining its future plans for the technology, TalkTalk said it will look to focus on "improving the customer connection process and reducing the initial setup and ongoing provisioning costs".

The fibre service offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps, which the ISP claims will allow subscribers to stream high-definition content from online video players such as the BBC iPlayer without being affected by buffering.
