Warrington residents urged to campaign for fibre broadband access

Friday, November 9th 2012 by Paul France
Helen Jones MP is calling for the people of Warrington to demand super-fast broadband access.

Warrington North MP Helen Jones is urging residents to play their part in bringing fibre optic broadband to the area.

The politician has echoed the call of the Warrington Guardian's campaign to bring better broadband connectivity to the north-west town.

"I'm calling on every resident to register their demand for faster broadband with their internet service provider or through the Connecting Cheshire website," she was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Ms Jones has lobbied BT to include street cabinets in the local community of Winwick in its fibre optic broadband rollout programme.

The telecoms giant has promised to bring super-fast broadband to 23,500 homes and businesses in Warrington by the end of 2013, but it is currently unclear which cabinets will be upgraded.

BT has confirmed it will choose where to deploy its fibre broadband service based on local demand for the technology.

The company is aiming to deliver super-fast broadband to two-thirds of the UK during spring 2014.
